microbiome research

We live in a microbial world, where microbes significantly impact the proper functioning of our ecosystems, and the health of humans and animals.

Our lab studies the factors that shape the composition and function of the microbiome; the collection of microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, microeukaryotes and viruses) that inhabit environmental, human and animal surfaces.

We use this information to explore how the microbiome impacts nutrition and health in human and animal populations.

If you’re interested in joining the lab, collaborating with us, or would like to support our research, please contact Dr. Andres Gomez at gomeza@umn.edu.
